SEMINARIANS — Scholarships were recently awarded to Elliot Munn and Drew McLaren at Second Congregational Church of Norway.

NORWAY — It’s that time of year again when parents are busy shopping for new clothes and supplies to send their children off to school. It’s the same whether your child is going to Kindergarten for the first time, or entering high school – they need to be well prepared for the upcoming year.

At Second Congregational Church in Norway, scholarships were recently presented to three young men who have grown up in the church and are off to Seminary.

Drew McLaren of Harrison, a 2012 graduate of the University of Maine, Farmington, will be entering Eden Theological Seminary in Missouri in the fall; Elliot Munn of Norway, a 2012 Bowdoin graduate, will be attending Yale Divinity School as a three-year Master of Divinity candidate and Earl Rogers of South Paris enters his senior year at Andover Newton Theological Seminary to obtain his Master of Divinity. Earl, a 2010 graduate of Huntington’s Juniata College, was unable to attend the service as he was just finishing up a summer-long Clinical Pastoral Education course.

On hand to present the scholarships were Rev. Leslie Foley, Deacon Laura Gouin, Trustee Hilary Ware, and past Christian Education Director Deb Ladner.

They shared memories of the "boys" growing up in the church with the friends and family in attendance and extended the church's love, support and excitement for what is yet to come.

In 2006, Benjamin Wood, who also has roots in the church, graduated with a Masters in Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School.

Rev. Foley said "History is in the making at Second Congo, where not one but three scholarships are being awarded to members of the church who will be attending seminary in the fall."

Interestingly enough, Rev. Foley, who holds a Masters of Divinity, will attend Andover Newton Theological to pursue a Doctor of Ministry degree with an emphasis on spiritual care education.

At Second Congregational Church, UCC, God is Still Speaking ... and their young people are listening.
