FOR THE LOVE of a Song Doors open at 7 p.m. and music starts at 7:30 p.m. at Norway Memorial Library. Free and open to the public. Evening of music featuring 12 talented Western Maine singers. Performers choose one of their favorite songs to sing and these personal selections range from pop, country, historical and original songs. Singers include Steve Jones, Ed Gabrielsen, Fawn Palmer, Donna Chickering, Bill Libby, Steve Session, Jennifer St.Pierre, Tom Ferent, Joel Pulkkinen and James Bennett. Some will accompany themselves, and others will be accompanied by the SuperMoon Trio, consisting of Dawson Hill, Kristen Short and Rusty Wiltjer. Short and Hill will also sing.Friends of the Library will provide refreshments following the concert.
BASKET WORKSHOP 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at McLaughlin Garden, Main St., So. Paris. Cost of $30 includes lunch as well as the instruction and the basket making supplies. RELAY FOR LIFE Kick-off 6 p.m. at Four Season's Function Center, So. Paris.. Anyone wishing to learn more about Relay For Life or wanting to participate in some way is welcome. Plans for this year's Relay For Life will be announced at the Kick-Off event. At this Kick-Off event, teams can sign up, individuals can volunteer, survivors can get support and businesses can learn about sponsorships and more.
AARP MEETING Noon lunch at the 1st Congregational Church, E. Main St., So, Paris. Cost is $6.50 and reservations are required by calling Ruth at 744-9069 by Feb. 8. Lunch will be oven baked chicken with all the fixings . Business meeting will begin at 1 p.m. . Dues should be paid at this meeting. and a reminder to bring donations for the Food Pantry. For those going on the March bus trip, that money will also be due. Program will be "Gidgets, Gadgets and Thingamabobs" presented by Jeff Auger.
LOVE=CHOCOLATE 5:30 p.m. at the Harrison Village Library. Program is free and open to the public. Stacy Martin of Ruby Slippers Café & Bakery will discuss the history of giving chocolate as a token of love, and will also share some techniques for making homemade candy. SNOWFEST Sponsored by the Loon Echo Land Trust. 9-11 a.m. at Five Fields Farm, Rte. 107, So. Bridgton. Fee of $10 for adults and $5 for ages 17 and under will include trail passes, food and prizes. Celebration will include a 10K cross county ski race at 9:00 a.m., a 5k race at 9:15 a.m., and a youth snowshoe fun run at 10:15 a.m. Races are casual and suitable for all levels. Throughout the morning participants can warm up by the bonfire and enjoy hot chocolate and refreshments. Bring your own equipment; rentals are available on site if needed. Entertainment for the afternoon will be performed by the musicians and performing award winners that are Tennessee bound In March for national competitions in Pigeon Forge. FISHING DERBY Sponsored by Western ME Fish & Game in partnership with Harrison Parks and Rec. 7 a.m.-3 p.m. on Long Lake, 11 miles from Harrison to Naples. Fees are $2 for ages 0-10 and 11-15 and $5 for ages 16 and up. DISTINGUISHED YOUNG WOMEN of Maine 2-3:30 p.m. at Lewiston Middle School Auditorium. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Free admission. Distinguished Young Women is a national scholarship program that inspires high school senior girls to develop their full, individual potential through a fun, transformative experience that culminates in a celebratory showcase of their accomplishments. The contestants are evaluated in the following categories: scholastics, self-expression, fitness, talent and interview. Maine state winner will attend National Finals in Mobile, Alabama with the opportunity to compete for the title of Distinguished Young Woman of America. Program awards college scholarships to young women who have distinguished themselves at school and in their communities. Those who participate in Distinguished Young Women programs develop interview skills, self-confidence, and other life skills that lead to future success.

FISHING DERBY Sponsored by Norway-Paris Fish & Game Assn. and the money raised from the derby goes into the general fund to help the club send several local youngsters to the Un. of ME 4-H Camp at Bryant Pond. Club opens the derby to all area lakes and ponds. Fish need to be weighed in at the Little Red School House on Norway Lake between the hours of sunrise and sunset. Tickets for the derby are $1 and will also enter you into a drawing for some really nice prizes. Tickets are available from club members, local sports shops or at the derby. Fish stories, homemade goodies and lunch will be available at the Little Red School House both derby days. All children 12 and under will receive a prize for entering any fish with $50 each for the largest bass, togue, pike, salmon, pickerel, brown trout, brook trout or splake in both adult and junior categories. DIABETIC Education sponsored by Bridgton Hospital Diabetes Clinic. 8:30-11:30 a.m. in the Bridgton Hospital Boardroom. Series requires physician referral and early registration is suggested due to its popularity (class size is limited to assure personal attention). Topics covered include: the importance of exercise and physical activity, healthy meal plans and diabetes, hypoglycemia signs and symptoms, medications to control diabetes, complications and diabetes, diabetes and eye care, and diabetes and proper foot care. Medicaid and most insurance plans cover the course registration fee. A dietary consultation is required, and should be done before the classes begin. DOWNHILL DERBY 24-hour downhill ski challenge to benefit WinterKids. Starts at 12 p.m. on March 9, and ends at 12 p.m. on March 10, at Mt. Abram, Locke Mills. Registration fee is $85 per person. In addition to skiing and boarding there will be plenty of activities to keep you entertained around the clock. Form a team with your friends and family. There is a 50 team limit, so reserve your spot early and create a team now. Your other team members can sign up and join your team at a later time. Just be sure to tell them your team name. Teams must be a minimum of 5 people and a maximum of 10. All participants must be at least 12 years old.

VALENTINE DINNER 5:30 and 7 p.m. seatings at the Congregational Church of E. Sumner. Diners will be seated at small tables for up to 4 with candlelight and soft music. They will have a choice of French onion or chicken noodle soup for an entree. The main dish will be either baked turkey or pork loin with mashed potatoes, stuffing, steamed vegetables, rolls, and 3 choices of pie. Orders will be taken and served by waiters.
