POLAND HISTORICAL Society  10 a.m. meeting at the old schoolhouse, Rte. 26, Poland Corner, weather permitting.  Public is welcome.  FMI call 998-4391.

TAKE YOUR CHILD  to the Library Day  During library hours at the Harrison Village Library and Waterford Library.   Both libraries will welcome new and existing child patrons to the library with a special appearance by Bruce the Moose, magic tricks, and door prizes. Harrison Village Library will also offer activities for caregivers and children throughout the day. Bruce the Moose will appear at Waterford Library at 10:30 a.m. and at Harrison Village Library at 12 p.m. FMI call the libraries at 583-2970 (Harrison) or 583-2050 (Waterford).

TEXAS HOLD'EM  Sponsored by the HarrisonLions Club with proceeds to be used to provide services that the club renders to the community.  Doors open at 11:30 a.m., start time is 1 p.m. and end time is 6 p.m. at the VFW Hall, 176 Waterford Rd., Harrison. $55 entry fee includes the stipend for the State license fee.  Food and refreshments will be available at this BYOB event.  Limited to 100 players.

CONCERT FUNDRAISER  Proceeds will benefit the food pantry.  6 p.m. at the Norway Church of the Nazarene, 10 Grove St.   Several Maine musicians  will be performing.  Please come and bring a friend and enjoy a great concert.   FMI call  the pastor at 393-6960.

February 3

WINTER FUN Day  Sponsored by the Waterford World's Fair.  10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Highview Farm, 48 Leader Harmon Rd., Harrison. Dig out your warm clothes — hats, mittens, boots and a warm jacket.  The Fair mobile food wagon will be serving corn and fish chowder, beans and hot dogs, fried dough, meatball subs and brownies for dessert. If you want you can cook your hot dog or marshmallows on the bonfire which will be going all day.   Bill will be giving sleigh rides for $5 per person and then you can go sledding on the big hill in front of the farm. SOCRATES CAFE   6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Waterford Library.  Group offers a forum to discuss current topics and ideas in a warm, friendly atmosphere, where divergent views will be welcome. GENEALOGY 101  1-2:30 p.m. at Norway Memorial Library.  Program will provide information about the basics of genealogy research and how your local and state library can help you get started on researching your family’s history. An introduction to Ancestry.com, a resource made available free of charge to Maine citizens through MARVEL, Maine’s Virtual Library will be included. The program will be led by Emily Schroeder. eBOOKS, eREADERS/TABLETS  6:30 p.m. at the Paris Public Library, Market Sq.  This will be an interactive session where you can learn how to download eBooks from the library, learn about other eBook sources, and obtain more general help using your device.  eReader and tablet assistance on a “drop-in” basis  will be provided on Mondays, from 9 a.m.- 6 p.m..  Just bring in your device and any questions that you may have. FMI call the at 743-6994 or e-mail paris.public.library@msln.net.  SCHOOLHOUSE ART Center  7 p.m. annual meeting in the Watchic Lake Room at Standish Town Hall, 175 Northeast Rd.  Anyone interested in the future of the Arts in the community is encouraged to attend the meeting. BLOOD DRIVE  Sponsored by the American Red Cross.  8 a.m.-1 p.m. at SMH, Main St., Norway.

SENIOR SOCIAL and Luncheon   Sponsored and hosted by Harrison Parks and Rec.    11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Community Room at the Harrison Fire Station.  Cost is $3.  Lunch will be homemade beef stew and rolls, decorate a cupcake, juice, coffee and tea.  Harrison Village Library will present the Reader’s Theatre with Kathleen Kramer and Jane Riseman and a group of Mrs. Toohey’s 6th grade students at the Harrison School will be volunteering their help.  There will also be Valentine word puzzles and games, maze puzzle, prizes, guess the number of M&Ms and Bingo.

FOR THE LOVE of a Song Doors open at 7 p.m. and music starts at 7:30 p.m. at Norway Memorial Library.  Free and open to the public. Evening of music featuring 12 talented Western Maine singers.   Performers choose one of their favorite songs to sing and these personal selections range from pop, country, historical and original songs.  Singers  include Steve Jones, Ed Gabrielsen, Fawn Palmer, Donna Chickering, Bill Libby,  Steve Session, Jennifer St.Pierre, Tom Ferent, Joel Pulkkinen and James Bennett. Some will accompany themselves, and others will be accompanied by the SuperMoon Trio, consisting of Dawson Hill, Kristen Short and Rusty Wiltjer.  Short and Hill will also sing.Friends of the Library will provide refreshments following the concert.

BASKET WORKSHOP  10 a.m.-3 p.m. at McLaughlin Garden, Main St., So. Paris.   Cost of $30 includes lunch as well as the instruction and the basket making supplies.   Karen Ellis and Joyce Sweatt will be teaching participants how to make either a heart shaped or a red basket.  FMI or to reserve a place, call McLaughlin Garden at 743-8820.

SWINGIN' BEARS  Square Dance Club.  7-10 p.m. at OHMS, Pine 
St., So. Paris.   Admission is $6.  Non-dancers welcome at no charge. Darrell Sprague will call for the square dancing and Carol Stewart Arsenault will cue for the round dancing. Refreshments are served at intermission with door prizes and a Pot O' Gold drawing.  FMI call Eleanor at 782-4050.

ALAN DAY Community Garden  2-4 p.m. organizing meeting for 2013 at Fare Share Commons, Norway.  There will be organic bulk seed order and sign up for garden plots, projects and workshops.   Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join this community organizing meeting. RELAY FOR LIFE Kick-off  6 p.m. at Four Season's Function Center, So. Paris..  Anyone wishing to learn more about Relay For Life or wanting to participate in some way is welcome.  Plans for this year's Relay For Life will be announced at the Kick-Off event.  At this Kick-Off event, teams can sign up, individuals can volunteer, survivors can get support and businesses can learn about sponsorships and more.

DIABETIC Education sponsored by Bridgton Hospital Diabetes Clinic.  8:30-11:30 a.m. in the Bridgton Hospital Boardroom. Series requires physician referral and early registration is suggested due to its popularity (class size is limited to assure personal attention). Topics covered include: the importance of exercise and physical activity, healthy meal plans and diabetes, hypoglycemia signs and symptoms, medications to control diabetes, complications and diabetes, diabetes and eye care, and diabetes and proper foot care. Medicaid and most insurance plans cover the course registration fee.  A dietary consultation is required, and should be done before the classes begin.  Please contact Linda at 647-6062 to schedule an appointment for this consultation. DOWNHILL DERBY  24-hour downhill ski challenge to benefit WinterKids.  Starts at 12 p.m. on March 9, and ends at 12 p.m. on March 10, at Mt. Abram, Locke Mills.  Registration fee is $85 per person.  In addition to skiing and boarding there will be plenty of activities to keep you entertained around the clock. Form a team with your friends and family.   There is a 50 team limit, so reserve your spot early and create a team now.   Your other team members can sign up and join your team at a later time. Just be sure to tell them your team name.  Teams must be a minimum of 5 people and a maximum of 10. All participants must be at least 12 years old.

TURKEY dinner  5 p.m. at Deering Memorial Methodist Church, corner of Main and Church St., So. Paris.  The cost will be $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12.   Homemade pies for dessert.  Ample parking behind the library and town office.

ROAST BEEF supper Proceeds go towards maintenance of the Society's bldg.    4:30--6:30 p.m. at the Mechanic Falls Historical Society, 64 Elm St., Mechanic Falls.  Cost is $7 for adults and $5 for 12 and under.  Side dish of roast turkey will also be available.  History of Mechanic Falls will be available for the purchase price of $20 each.

ITALIAN dinner Sponsored by the Otisfield softball teams (Farm League and Little League) with proceeds to be used or uniforms, sweatshirts, equipment and updates to snack shack.  2 seatings from 5-6 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. at the Otisfield Community Hall, Rte. 121.  Donations will be gratefully accepted.  Menu will include lasagna, spaghetti and gluten-free choices.
