CHRISTMAS SALE  Proceeds will benefit the Ledgeview Activity Dept.  9 a.m.-noon at Ledgeview Living Center, W. Paris.  Donations are graciously accepted.

MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET  7:30 p.m. on Dec. 14 and 15, and 2 p.m. on Dec. 16, at  Schoolhouse Arts Center, Richville Rd. (Rte,. 114), Standish.   Miracle on 34th Street is a heartwarming holiday story about Kris Kringle, an old man in a retirement home, who gets a job working as Santa for Macy's and is great entertainment for the entire family.  Tickets are $14 for adults and $12 for students and seniors.  For tickets, call  642-3743 or  buy online at

WINTER LIGHTING  6:15 p.m. at the W, Paris Library. All are invited to share in this annual festive event. This year the library is celebrating  those who  helped make  the dream of a more spacious library a reality.  Following the illumination of lights, if the weather permits, there will be horse drawn wagon rides for the young and young at heart. Inside, holiday cookies and  hot, mulled cider  will be served. There will be songs by the Agnes Gray Explorers and a sing- along of the season’s favorites with Jim Burke playing the keyboard.  FMI call the library at 674-2004.

CHRISTMAS CANTATA  6:45 p.m. on Dec. 14, and 10:45 a.m. on Dec. 15, at the Woodstock Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Perkins Valley Rd., Woodstock.  Cantata will be presented by the Forestdale School students and church children and directed by Winnie Hodson.  All are invited to come, see and hear a special program.

CHRISTMAS Open House  12-4 p.m. at Responsible Pet Care Shelter & Adoption and Pawsibilities Thrift Shoppe, 132 Waterford Rd., Norway.  There will be door prizes, raffles, refreshments and wonderful cats, kittens and dogs.  Bring donations for the animals Santa box.  FMI call 743-8670.

HERITAGE CHRISTMAS  Presented by the ME Music Society and featuring the voices of the Androscoggin Chorale and the Lewiston High School Chamber Choir.   7:30 p.m. at the 1st Congregational Church, 17 E. PUBLIC BREAKFAST with Santa 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Harrison VFW Post, Waterford Rd.(Rte. 35), Harrison.  Donations will be accepted.   Breakfast features scrambled eggs, French toast, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage, home fries, fruit cup, sweet breads, orange juice, and beverage.

LIVING NATIVITY  6 p.m. at the Congregational Church of E.  Sumner, 50 Main St.   Paula Dobbins will read the Christmas story, the choir will sing the hymns and local youth will act out the story.  Cookies and cocoa afterwards in the vestry. In the event of rain, the Living Nativity will take place in the Sanctuary.

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA   Proceeds from this event will benefit the Maine Heart Gallery, overseen by Second Best Ministries of Oxford. Heart Gallery displays photos of children awaiting adoption in ME.  9 a.m. at the Oxford Pizza Hut.  Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for 12 and under.  Checks and cash only, no credit cards.  There will be food, music and fun.   Reservations are required by calling Karen at 539-4217.

CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS   3 p.m. at the 1st Universalist Church, 479 Main St., Norway.  Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for under 18 and are available at Books 'n Things, Main St., Norway, or online at www.heatherpierson.com.  Presented by the Heather Pierson Quartet. 

CHRISTMAS CANTATA  4 p.m. at the Locke Mills Union Church.  The "Night of Love" cantata will be performed by community church members directed by Bev Melville.  Refreshments will follow. 

HOLIDAY GATHERING  5 p.m. candlelit caroling on the Waterford Common.  Following the caroling everyone is invited to the Waterford Library for refreshments and an opportunity to enjoy the company of neighbors and friends.  Children will have an opportunity for a visit with Santa and will receive a book as a gift. Everyone is invited.

CHRISTMAS Open House  1-4 p.m. at the Lovell Historical Society's 1838 Kimball-Stanford House, corner of Rte. 5 and Old Stage Rd. (across from the Lake Kezar Country Club), Lovell.   Available for sale that day will be the Society’s newest publication, "A History of West Lovell.  House will be decorated for the holidays and the museum exhibit will be open. An assortment of holiday goodies will be offered in the Bakeshop along with free refreshments for all. Additionally, children will have the opportunity to decorate gingerbread men and several local businesses will be exhibiting their wares.  Also available is the opportunity to win one of 3 raffle prizes.  Tickets for the raffle are $5 for a book of 6 or $1 each.  Raffle drawings will be held at 3 p.m. and tickets may be purchased either at the Historical Society or the Lovell Village Store.  FMI  call 925-3234 or go to lovellhistoricalsociety.org.

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA  Sponsored by the Ladies Aux.  9-10:30 a.m. at American Legion Post 150, Elm St., Mechanic Falls.  Cost is $5 and the breakfast buffet includes a picture with Santa.  There will also be door prize drawings and crafts.

CHRISTMAS BREATH  7 p.m. at Casco Village Church United Church of Christ, 941 Meadow Rd. (Rte. 121), Casco.  Candles  are lit in the Sanctuary, soft music will be playing — a time to reflect, to quiet one's soul, to sit still and b-r-e-a-t-h-e.

CHRISTMAS EVE Service  7  p.m. at the Congregational Church of E.  Sumner, 50 Main St.

CHRISTMAS EVE  Services  7 p.m. family friendly service at the Casco Village Church United Church of Christ, 941 Meadow Road (Route 121) in Casco.  There will be special music, lots of carol singing and special surprises.   At 9 p.m. there will be a candlelight communion service with full choir singing, a special late Christmas Eve Spirit and "Silent Night" sung outside around the creche.

CHRISTMAS DINNER  12-2 p.m. at the 1st Congregational Church, E. Main St., So. Paris, across from the Fox School.  There is no charge.  Bring a friend or 2.  Church is wheelchair accessible.  FMI call 674-5185.

FINNISH-AMERICAN Heritage Society of Maine  2 p.m. meeting at the Finnish-American Heritage Center, 8 Maple St., W.  Paris.  Brief business meeting will be followed by a coffee social and a program presented by Tamara Cohen on Finnish inventors.  Public is invited to attend.

FISH & GAME Association  6:30 p.m. Christmas supper with business meeting to follow.  Those who signed up to bring food items for the canceled Thanksgiving meeting are asked to bring those items and others are asked to bring desserts. OIL AWARENESS Movies  Hosted by John O'Brien.  7 p.m. at the Waterford Town Office, 366 Valley Rd., Waterford.   Showings are to raise awareness to the threat of tar sands oil flowing through the Portland Pipeline which runs through Western ME and by Sebago Lake. Waterford residents will gather to watch two films, one in opposition to tar sands and one in support of tar sands. A community conversation and questions and answer session will follow.
