SWOAM MEETING Co-sponsored by Oxford County Soil and Water Conservation District. 7 p.m. in Room E118 at OHCHS, So. Paris. Meeting is free and open to anyone. “Deer Ecology, Habitat Management and Food Plots” will be the topic of the meeting. Representatives from the ME Dept. of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, the Maine Forest Service and the Quality Deer Management Assn. will speak on a variety of subjects related to managing deer on small woodlots. Maine fly fisher, Rod McGarry, will be the speaker.In a fast paced, high audience participation workshop Rod will share many of the ways one can take some small steps forward. In addition, a raffle will be held to benefit the chapter’s efforts to construct a Veterans’ Fishing Pier at the Songo Locks in Naples to help Wounded Warriors have access to one of Southern Maine’s premier fishing spots. CPR COURSE 9-11:30 a.m. for family and friends at CMMC, Auburn. Cost is $49 and includes materials. This quick course is designed to teach potential rescuers the basics of CPR. FISHING DERBY Sponsored by Norway-Paris Fish & Game Assn. and the money raised from the derby goes into the general fund to help the club send several local youngsters to the Un. of ME 4-H Camp at Bryant Pond. Club opens the derby to all area lakes and ponds. Fish need to be weighed in at the Little Red School House on Norway Lake between the hours of sunrise and sunset. Tickets for the derby are $1 and will also enter you into a drawing for some really nice prizes. Tickets are available from club members, local sports shops or at the derby. Fish stories, homemade goodies and lunch will be available at the Little Red School House both derby days. All children 12 and under will receive a prize for entering any fish with $50 each for the largest bass, togue, pike, salmon, pickerel, brown trout, brook trout or splake in both adult and junior categories. JENNIFER WIXSON 11 a.m. at the 1st Unitarian Universalist Church of Norway, 479 Main St. Wilson is a Maine farmer, author and itinerant Quaker minister and her sermon is titled "Sacred Cow" which will explore the tension between loving and yet killing the animals that provide us (non-vegetarians) with our daily meat. She will bring a first-hand Maine farmer's spiritual prospective to the topic, yet also draw upon the philosophy of other cultures, particularly Native American. Childcare is provided and a social hour follows the service.

DOWNHILL DERBY 24-hour downhill ski challenge to benefit WinterKids. Starts at 12 p.m. on March 9, and ends at 12 p.m. on March 10, at Mt. Abram, Locke Mills. Registration fee is $85 per person. In addition to skiing and boarding there will be plenty of activities to keep you entertained around the clock. Form a team with your friends and family. There is a 50 team limit, so reserve your spot early and create a team now. Your other team members can sign up and join your team at a later time. Just be sure to tell them your team name. Teams must be a minimum of 5 people and a maximum of 10. All participants must be at least 12 years old.
