SNOWFEST Sponsored by the Loon Echo Land Trust. 9-11 a.m. at Five Fields Farm, Rte. 107, So. Bridgton. Fee of $10 for adults and $5 for ages 17 and under will include trail passes, food and prizes. Celebration will include a 10K cross county ski race at 9:00 a.m., a 5k race at 9:15 a.m., and a youth snowshoe fun run at 10:15 a.m. Races are casual and suitable for all levels. Throughout the morning participants can warm up by the bonfire and enjoy hot chocolate and refreshments. Bring your own equipment; rentals are available on site if needed. CARDIAC SCREENING 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute, Lewiston. Screening will include a cardiac rhythm test performed by a cardiovascular technician and a copy of the results will be provided to each participant’s primary care physician. DISTINGUISHED YOUNG WOMEN of Maine 2-3:30 p.m. at Lewiston Middle School Auditorium. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Free admission. Distinguished Young Women is a national scholarship program that inspires high school senior girls to develop their full, individual potential through a fun, transformative experience that culminates in a celebratory showcase of their accomplishments. The contestants are evaluated in the following categories: scholastics, self-expression, fitness, talent and interview. Maine state winner will attend National Finals in Mobile, Alabama with the opportunity to compete for the title of Distinguished Young Woman of America. Program awards college scholarships to young women who have distinguished themselves at school and in their communities. Those who participate in Distinguished Young Women programs develop interview skills, self-confidence, and other life skills that lead to future success.
CPR COURSE 9-11:30 a.m. for family and friends at CMMC, Auburn. Cost is $49 and includes materials. This quick course is designed to teach potential rescuers the basics of CPR. Participants will experience a practice-as-they-watch class format. Topics covered include hands-only CPR and AED use for adults, child CPR and AED use and infant CPR. FISHING DERBY Sponsored by Norway-Paris Fish & Game Assn. and the money raised from the derby goes into the general fund to help the club send several local youngsters to the Un. of ME 4-H Camp at Bryant Pond. Club opens the derby to all area lakes and ponds. Fish need to be weighed in at the Little Red School House on Norway Lake between the hours of sunrise and sunset. Tickets for the derby are $1 and will also enter you into a drawing for some really nice prizes. Tickets are available from club members, local sports shops or at the derby. Fish stories, homemade goodies and lunch will be available at the Little Red School House both derby days. All children 12 and under will receive a prize for entering any fish with $50 each for the largest bass, togue, pike, salmon, pickerel, brown trout, brook trout or splake in both adult and junior categories. JENNIFER WIXSON 11 a.m. at the 1st Unitarian Universalist Church of Norway, 479 Main St. Wilson is a Maine farmer, author and itinerant Quaker minister and her sermon is titled "Sacred Cow" which will explore the tension between loving and yet killing the animals that provide us (non-vegetarians) with our daily meat. She will bring a first-hand Maine farmer's spiritual prospective to the topic, yet also draw upon the philosophy of other cultures, particularly Native American. Childcare is provided and a social hour follows the service.

DIABETIC Education sponsored by Bridgton Hospital Diabetes Clinic. 8:30-11:30 a.m. in the Bridgton Hospital Boardroom. Series requires physician referral and early registration is suggested due to its popularity (class size is limited to assure personal attention). Topics covered include: the importance of exercise and physical activity, healthy meal plans and diabetes, hypoglycemia signs and symptoms, medications to control diabetes, complications and diabetes, diabetes and eye care, and diabetes and proper foot care. Medicaid and most insurance plans cover the course registration fee. A dietary consultation is required, and should be done before the classes begin. DOWNHILL DERBY 24-hour downhill ski challenge to benefit WinterKids. Starts at 12 p.m. on March 9, and ends at 12 p.m. on March 10, at Mt. Abram, Locke Mills. Registration fee is $85 per person. In addition to skiing and boarding there will be plenty of activities to keep you entertained around the clock. Form a team with your friends and family. There is a 50 team limit, so reserve your spot early and create a team now. Your other team members can sign up and join your team at a later time. Just be sure to tell them your team name. Teams must be a minimum of 5 people and a maximum of 10. All participants must be at least 12 years old.

The main dish will be either baked turkey or pork loin with mashed potatoes, stuffing, steamed vegetables, rolls, and 3 choices of pie. Orders will be taken and served by waiters.
