Schauffler joins HOH as coordinator
NORWAY — Western Maine Health Vice President of Clinical Services M. Patricia Cook, RN, MBA, EdD, is pleased to announce that Brendan Schauffler has recently joined Healthy Oxford Hills, a project of Stephens Memorial Hospital, as the new Active Community Environment Coordinator. This position is funded by the Community Transformation Grant for Small Communities.
In his new role Schauffler will work collaboratively with community partners to increase bike and pedestrian usage in Oxford County, specifically in Norway, South Paris, Bethel, Rumford, Mexico, Hiram and Porter.
Schauffler ’s focus will be to assess and raise awareness of existing pedestrian and bike resources, promote education that keeps cyclists, pedestrians and motorists safe, and implement wayfinding programs to facilitate the use of pedestrian and bike resources.
Schauffler will work with the Oxford County Wellness Collaborative and other community partners to establish a county-wide education and awareness campaign. The ultimate goal of this work is to improve public and community health by encouraging more people in Oxford County to be more physically active through biking and walking.
Schauffler is currently completing his Masters program in Community Planning & Development at the Muskie School of Public Service in Portland. He has previously worked as a Project Manager with Moose Pond Arts+Ecology and he is currently the Coordinator at Good Food for Lewiston/Auburn.
Of his new position Schauffler shares, “I am excited for the opportunity to work in the community and to do something that I firmly believe in. When we make communities more bikable and walkable, we not only improve physical health - we make our towns better places to live.”
