Poland Spring fleet earns safety award

PORTLAND — Poland Spring Water Company’s trucking fleet was awarded the 2012 Maine Motor Transport Association (MMTA) Grand Champion Award at MMTA’s annual banquet in Portland on January 10.

Poland Spring has been previously recognized by MMTA for its consistent focus on driver safety, winning the second place “Safest Fleet” award in 2010 and first place in 2011 for motor carriers in their mileage category. This is the first year the company has earned the coveted “Grand Champion” recognition for the four million mile and under category.

The Grand Champion Award is the highest safety honor presented to a member of the Maine Motor Transport Association and is given annually to two carriers judged to have the most outstanding safety record and safety program.

The historic Maine water bottler was recognized by MMTA for its safety program and excellence in categories like training, supervision, inspection and maintenance of equipment, and general highway safety. In addition to looking at the number of DOT recordable accidents, the MMTA judging criteria assesses the company’s efforts to exceed minimum state and federal safety requirements.
