Ward receives Excellence Award

AUGUSTA — Falishia Ward of Oxford was recently honored at the Blaine House in Augusta with the Excellence in Long-Term Care Award. The Maine Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program sponsors the Excellence Awards each year to recognize outstanding direct care workers employed in nursing homes, residential care and home care.

This year, 19 caregivers were chosen because of their dedication, leadership qualities and commitment to providing excellent care. Each award recipient was selected by an independent panel that reviewed nominations submitted by providers from across the state. Mrs. Ann LePage participated in the awards ceremony congratulating Falishia and the other award recipients as they received their awards.

Falishia is a Certified Nursing Assistant and has been employed at Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center for 10 years. Executive Director Lynn Roy nominated Falishia saying that she "has consistently given the residents the highest standard of compassion, commitment and care."

Falishia is described by the management team at the nursing home as having a commendable work ethic and a special ability to communicate with and advocate for residents. She is seen by others as a "true leader." Several examples of Falishia's outstanding qualities as an exemplary caregiver were cited in the nomination.

Long-Term Care Ombudsman Brenda Gallant said that direct care staff employed in nursing homes, residential care and home care are often unrecognized, though the work they do is so important. "Holding the awards ceremony at the Blaine House with Maine's First Lady participating meant a great deal to the workers."
