Rice passes IRS exam

NORWAY — Austin Associates, Certified Public Accountants, would like to congratulate Patty Rice on her successful completion of the IRS Registered Tax Return Preparer exam (RTRP). Patty works in the Norway office and is currently accepting new clients. She may be reached at 743-7777.

The IRS requires numerous regulations be met by all paid tax return preparers, including the passing of a competency test for those who are not EAs, CPAs or attorneys, as their certifications have already proven their competency in income tax preparation.

The IRS is currently creating a publicly searchable database that will allow taxpayers to see if their tax preparer meets IRS standards. Unlicensed tax preparers will have until December 31, 2013 to pass this test.
