NORWAY — Norway Savings Bank is pleased to announce their Saco branch has been awarded LEED Certification established by the U.S. Green Building Council and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute. LEED is the nation’s preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.

Norway Savings achieved the prestigious certification for energy use, lighting, water and material use as well as incorporating a variety of other sustainable strategies. By using less energy and water, the Saco branch building saves money, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and contributes to a healthier environment for residents in the community.

“Norway Savings Bank’s LEED certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership,” said Rick Redrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council. “The urgency of USGBC’s mission has challenged the industry to move faster and reach further than ever before, and Norway Savings Bank serves as a prime example with just how much we can accomplish.”

Going forward, Norway Savings is committed to constructing energy efficient and environmentally friendly branches utilizing LEED inspired specifications, similar to those utilized in the construction of the Saco branch.

“It’s essential for us to build to these standards,” said Brian Shibles, Norway Savings Bank’s Chief Financial Officer. “We plan on being a part of the communities we serve for a long time and it is our obligation to build branches using energy-efficient methods. We are always searching for innovative techniques to improve our footprint.”

The bank’s Falmouth branch, constructed last year, has also received Efficiency Maine’s Advanced Buildings Program acceptance. This program offers strategies and incentives to buildings that are 20-30% more energy-efficient than the Maine Energy Code requires.
