The Chamber Beat
I want to thank all of our volunteers who spent last Thursday helping the Chamber during the 26th Annual Leon Truman Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic, held at Norway and Paris Hill Country Clubs.
The Tournament is always the largest fund raiser of the year for the Chamber and critical to our day to day operation. Thanks also to all of our sponsors including our Signature Sponsor, Oxford Casino and our Gold Sponsor, Norway Savings Bank, along with Silver Sponsors Northeast Bank, Twin City Financial Group, Hancock Lumber and Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial.
I’ll cover the rest of our fabulous Sponsors next week. Bruce Little, our project manager, did another outstanding job of facilitating the event and though the clubs limited our playing field this year the overall tournament was very successful.
Do not miss this year’s Oxford County Fair. It is a longtime Chamber member and we support its efforts to provide a community friendly event that is affordable and fun. And on Saturday, September 15, one of the great superstars of country music will be performing live on stage.
Multiple Grammy Award and Academy of Country Music Award winner LeAnn Rimes will be in concert at 8 p.m., and all you have to do to see this extraordinary star is pay the admission price of $5 – you heard me right.
The Oxford Hills is thrilled that Ms. Rimes is coming here to grace our community. By the way, this year’s fair runs from Wednesday through Saturday. Make sure you plan on attending.
SCORE and the Chamber of Commerce are kicking the fall schedule of Business Roundtables off with a critical event, on Wednesday, September 19 at the town office in Norway.
A presentation and discussion about the new health care system and alternatives for businesses to consider. Be looking for a press release with all of the information about this critical roundtable, which will be held from approximately 8 to 9 a.m.
Both Chamber and SCORE are interested in making sure that all businesses have choices in how they want to move forward with health insurance benefits, no matter how large or small your business is. You can register through SCORE or the Chamber office. Call Jennifer at 743-2281.
Another reminder that WMCA Career Center Services, will be bringing its local office to the Chamber of Commerce at 4 Western Avenue starting in early September. I can tell you that we feel honored to have this organization join us here at the Chamber and look forward to working on their behalf and working with them to help create an even better work and business environment for the people of the greater Oxford Hills and beyond. A perfect union of two organizations that want jobs to come first.
Our next Business After Hours is a special one, hosted by Robert’s Farm Preserve, on Thursday September 6th, on the Roberts Road in Norway and the Executive Director, Lee Dassler has indicated that she’s planning some fun activities for the event to go along with refreshments, door prizes and networking.
It sounds like a perfect opportunity to enjoy some early Fall outdoor fun, so we hope you can make it. As usual, the BAH starts at 5:30 and continues until 7 p.m. Here’s a hint, bring your walking shoes or sneakers.
My business profile this week is a brand new member of the Chamber, The Inn At Pinnacle Mountain.
The inn is a new four-season luxury mountain destination, sitting atop Pinnacle Mountain in the western lakes region of West Paris, on over 52 acres of spectacular wooded and open land with remarkable vistas of the Presidential Mountain Range.
It can host virtually any special event you want or simply be an escape. For more information and directions simply go online at www.innatpinnaclemountain.com
And by the way, if you're looking for information on virtually any business or non-profit or community organization in Oxford Hills, look no further then our Information Center located at 4 Western Avenue in South Paris.
We have it all along with our spectacular Magazine, ASCEND, which will be returning to it’s roots in 2013 with a new and yet familiar name.
As always, the Chamber is on top of business throughout the Oxford Hills – are you a Chamber Member yet? It’s easy, just call us at the office and speak with Jennifer or myself and we’ll sign you up. I'll see you next week.
