The Chamber Beat

Our annual Chamber publication, Ascend – The Oxford Hills, has arrived for distribution just in time for the kick-off of the Summer season. This 76-page magazine is filled with great stories about business and business personalities in the greater Oxford Hills area along with a comprehensive business directory of our members and a terrific annual calendar of events.

We also are devoting a part of the magazine to hiking trails in the area and downtown restoration. Finally the magazine talks about the wonderful seasons we enjoy here in the “Hills” with an emphasis on outdoor recreation in the winter. Come pick up your copy today.

We are just about ready to launch our new and improved web site which will be easy to navigate and filled with a complete member business directory, weekly news about the Chamber and it’s members, a comprehensive calendar of events focusing on Chamber members and Chamber events, a page devoted to the Chamber mission, a membership information page in case you want to join and a listing of all of our Board Members.

By the way I want to extend a special welcome to Erika Douglass, the human resources director at Maine Machine and Kevin Rosenberg, general manager at Ski Mt. Abram, as our newest board members.

Our Chamber is a member of one of seven tourism regions in the state. Our group is referred to as the Maine Lakes & Mountains Tourism Council (MLMTC) and it is the task of this council to find ways in which we can promote this area of Maine, so rich in it’s natural beauty along with events and festivals for travelers and our own residents.

We are currently utilizing grant money from the Department of Tourism to promote western Maine in the Boston market and we are also working on two initiatives which have to do with tourism training and the development of a Western Maine Arts Passport to make it easier for people to access the wonderful selection and diversity of theatre, music, art exhibits and festivals. You’ll hear more about all of these projects as they begin to take shape.

And welcome to our newest Chamber member, Commercial Communications, a one-stop shopping center for all of your business phone needs out of Turner.

As always, the Chamber is on top of business throughout the Oxford Hills – are you a Chamber Member yet? It’s easy, just call us at the office and speak with Jennifer or myself and we’ll sign you up. I'll see you next week.
