The Chamber Beat

What a tremendous turnout for the 36th Annual Chamber of Commerce Dinner & Awards Ceremony – 275 strong, always the largest event of the year in the greater Oxford Hills, celebrating the 13 communities that the Chamber represents.

And what a delight it was to have Allson Melangton as the keynote speaker. Allison spoke about her mentors who helped her be the success that she is today, the CEO for the Indiana Sports Management Corp. and a continuing associate producer for NBC Sports.

Allison spoke about growing up in Auburn and how her family and her teachers and coaches in grade school helped to mold her direction in life and subsequent successes like being named as the president & CEO for the 2012 Super Bowl in Indianapolis, where she managed a $30 Million budget and turned a profit for the event and the city of Indianapolis.

In her address Allison also mentioned how important it is to be a mentor for a youth. She said, “Don’t ever hesitate to take a risk and help someone, especially a young person, and don’t ever be afraid to take a risk in regard to your own life”.

Many thanks go out to our Board of Directors, who helped manage the evening and greet and network with the many, many businesses and community organizations that were represented there. Such terrific diversity.

Financial institutions and advisors, landscaping companies, insurance companies, automobile dealers, florists, photographers, engineers and energy systems, teachers, retailers, restaurants, non-profits, the arts, medical corporations and health facilities, stone masons, – you name it and they were at this dinner and awards ceremony because the Chamber serves them all.

And once again congratulations to this year’s winners, Responsible Pet Care – Community Service Award; The Oxford Casino – Business of The Year; Steve Holbrook, Oxford Hills Christian Academy – Employee of The Year; and Service Master Clean – The Rising Star of The Year.

So what do we do for an encore? We have the 11th Annual Oxford Hills Home Show in April, the launch of this year’s “Oxford Hills” our yearly magazine published by the Chamber, Business After Hours at AmCom Wireless in March and our next Business Roundtable with SCORE.

More coming up about all of these events, so keep reading because we do it all for you.

See you next week.
