Evening of song slated

NORWAY — Got the winter doldrums? For a sure fire cure, come to the Norway Memorial Library at 7:30 on Saturday, February 9, to hear “For the Love of a Song, II,” an evening of music featuring 12 talented Western Maine singers.

“For the Love of a Song, II” is the second show in a series that is unique because the performers choose one of their favorite songs to sing. These personal selections range from pop, country, historical and original songs.

The first show, in 2009, brought six singers to the library, who sang two songs each for a total of 12 songs. “For the Love of a Song, II” features 12 singers, who will sing only one song each. They include Steve Jones, Ed Gabrielsen, Fawn Palmer, Donna Chickering, Bill Libby, Steve Session, Jennifer St. Pierre, Tom Ferent, Joel Pulkkinen and James Bennett. Some will accompany themselves, and others will be accompanied by the SuperMoon Trio, consisting of Dawson Hill, Kristen Short and Rusty Wiltjer. Short and Hill will also sing.

These accomplished performers are often seen in various musical events in their communities from church choirs to big stage musicals. In fact, six of them were involved with the recent Oxford Hills Music and Performing Arts Association (OHMPAA) show, "The Road to Eden's Ridge, the Musical," written by Sally Jones in collaboration with Steve Jones (no relation) who composed the music and will be singing on February 9.

Sally conceived and produced “For the Love of a Song” concerts because “...after any local show, I hear people say, 'I just can't believe how much talent there is around here.' I just wanted to provide another performance opportunity for good singers and show off that talent.”

Beth Kane, director of the library, said, “The library is a wonderful place to enjoy live music and what better time to celebrate the love of music than around Valentine's Day?” The Friends of the Library will provide refreshments following the concert. This program is free and open to the public. The doors will open at 7 p.m.
