Benefit concert by Phil Poirier set
JAY — On Friday, October 19, Phil Poirier, a local musician, artist, active community member and former board member of the Norlands, will present a concert of original compositions as a benefit for the barn rebuilding efforts at the Washburn-Norlands Living History Center in Livermore.
His music has been described as “contemporary folk, with a touch of the blues.” It features strong, thoughtful lyrics and a great, hook-driven melodic sensibility.
Coffee and dessert and other refreshments will be available along with raffles for a cord of firewood and a handmade quilt donated by the Livermore Village Scrappers. Norlands is trying to raise funds to rebuild the barn, lost to a fire in 2008.
The barn will house oxen, cows, sheep, and pigs and plans include an ice house and hayloft. The new barn will enable Norlands to continue its living history programs in entirety, teaching visitors about farm life during the 19th century. Come and learn about the project and opportunities to be a part of Norland’s volunteer staff.
The concert takes place from 7 to 9 p.m., downstairs at the Otis Mill Complex, 1 Mill Street in Jay. Suggested donation is $5. For more information, call 897-4366 or visit www.Norlands.org. For more information about Phil Poirier and his music, visit www.philpoiriermusic.com.
