Frankie & Johnny at the DAC

DENMARK — Come join the Denmark Arts Center for a weekend of contemporary theater, live on this fabulous Maine stage! "Frankie & Johnny in the Clair de Lune" will be presented Friday through Sunday, September 21-23 at 7:30 p.m.

Can one truly find love in a moment? Or is it something built, over years of a life? What if it stared you right in the eye - would you meet its gaze, or run away and hide?

Tony-award winning playwright Terrence McNally tries to answer these questions in the story of Frankie and Johnny, waitress and cook at the local diner, whose one-night stand sets the stage for a comic, tender, and finally transcendent meditation on the desires that bind us together and the fears that keep us apart.

Set in a distant New York City of the late 1980s, "Frankie & Johnny in the Clair de Lune" sits firmly in the canon of great contemporary American plays on the merits of its sparkling dialogue, heartfelt humor, and poignant observation of the dance of love.

“'Frankie & Johnny' is that rare play that manages to talk about the truth of love: its joys and its labors, and the fear that can accompany its presence,” notes director Jamie Hook. “Itʼs also funny as hell.”

The play premiered off-Broadway in 1987, and has since travelled to hundreds of cities and towns all over America.

This production at the Denmark Arts Center stars Mick Early and Laurie LaMountain, under the direction of DAC Artistic Director Jamie Hook (whose own film "VacationLand" recently screened), with set and lighting design by DAC Assistant Director Harrison Corthell.

Donʼt miss this chance to see contemporary theater at its best.
