Call for entries: Yarmouth Art Festival

YARMOUTH — Entries are being accepted through Friday, September 21, for the fourth annual Yarmouth Art Festival. The juried show, created in 2009 as a new venue for the Maine arts community, will be held October 17-20 at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church at 396 Gilman Road, about a mile from Cousins Island.

The festival welcomes submissions – painting, sculpture, photography, etching and digital media – from any artist 18 and older who maintains a residence in Maine. The entry fee is $15 per person for the first piece, $10 for the second and $5 for each additional one. All fees and commissions support St. Bart’s community services.

Submissions are being accepted on-line until 6 p.m. September 21 and must include a digital image of each entry. Participating artists are responsible for delivering their work to the show. To access an entry form and the rules, visit www.yarmouthartfestival.com.

The 2011 festival drew more than 300 entries, with nearly 165 pieces from 75 artists selected for display. A total of 45 pieces were sold, at prices ranging from $60 to $600.

“We’ve gained momentum every year and have become a vibrant showcase for many artists across the state,” said Joe Michaud, festival co-chair. “We’re looking forward to another great show that highlights the breadth of talent we have in Maine.”

St. Bart’s bright, post-and-beam sanctuary is converted into an art gallery for the event. Running from Wednesday, October 17 through Saturday, October 20, the show will be open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. An artists’ reception, including music and refreshments, will be held Thursday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Admission will be free for both the festival and the reception, with donations accepted.
