Storytelling set at arts center

DENMARK — Stop by the Denmark Arts Center for “Braving The Middle Ground” on Saturday, August 11 at 7:30 p.m.and learn the troubling stories of your ancestors, unearthed by Lovell storyteller Jo Radner. Suggested donation is $10.

Tales will be told of her forebearers and their Native American neighbors whilst weaving these accounts with contemporary Abenaki legends and oral traditions. The performance will portray a “middle ground” where settlers and natives saw one another as kind neighbors, defenders and trespassers, pursuers and refugees and ruthless destroyers.

Radner will present an evening of story, with a Q&A afterward. Jo Radner, of Lovell, is a storyteller, oral historian and folklorist who has performed and taught in venues from Maine to Hawaii. Her stories favor characters whose lives defeat simple explanations; some of these are on her new CD, "Yankee Ingenuity: Stories of Headstrong and Resourceful People."
