Bernard/Shepley show at McLaughlin Gardens

SOUTH PARIS — Sarah Shepley and Anne Bernard, members of the Norway Commons Art Collective, will show new works through August at McLaughlin Gardens' Art in the Barn.

Though they use different materials, they share a love of layered imagery and allowing the process of working to suggest new areas of exploration. The opening reception is on August 10, from 5-7 p.m., and the barn is open every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sarah has worked in many different media over the years and most recently has been focused on monoprinting.

This body of work reflects her continued exploration into mixed media, mostly using transparent inks along with silkscreen, collographs, gold foil and the use of transfer papers. "I love being able to look through layers, not completely understanding what is going on as the overlapping shapes create their own character."

Anne has worked in sculpture and drawing with ink and mixed media, but for the past several years has focused on encaustic - painting with pigmented wax. She has also recently experimented with printmaking.

Her work is abstract, using line and texture to tease out imagery that is "mysterious but somehow familiar or remembered."

The artists have generously agreed to donate 25 percent of sales toward the McLaughlin Gardens.

The Garden’s annual meeting will start at 7 p.m., immediately following the opening.
