OHMPAA announces 2013 season

NORWAY — Oxford Hills Music and Performing Arts Association (OHMPAA) is pleased to announce its season for 2013.

The first show of the season, "The Good Doctor," will be presented March 14 to 24. Directed by Kenn Sawyer, "The Good Doctor" is a collection of Anton Chekhov comic short stories as retold and staged by celebrated playwright Neil Simon.

One of Simon's lesser known comedies, it ran off-Broadway over 1,000 performances, starring Marsha Mason and Christopher Plumner.

Veteran director Tom Littlefield will direct the summer show, "The Fourth Wall" by A.R. Gurney. Slated for June 20 to 30, "The Fourth Wall" is considered Gurney's "love letter to the theater," using the stage to explore such contemporary topics as cola wars, politics and even the people who attend the theater.

"Wait Until Dark" by Frederick Knott will be the fall performance, November 11 to 24, and directed by Jane Riseman. Certainly not Riseman's first time directing, it will mark her directing debut for OHMPAA.

"Wait Until Dark" is a masterfully constructed thriller in which two ex-convicts attempt to locate a mysterious item, ending up in the Greenwich Village apartment of Sam Hendrix and his blind wife Susy.

Although a show has yet to be selected, OHMPAA's dinner theater is scheduled for September 21 and 21. It is rumored that the script for this show may be written by another local author. More information will follow once a show has been chosen.

All shows will be performed at the Norway Grange theater on Whitman Street in Norway. Responding to audience concerns, OHMPAA will begin all evening performances this season at 7:30 p.m. instead of 8 p.m. (matinees will continue to begin at 2 p.m.).

If this change works well for audiences, casts and crews, it may become permanent. As usual, the very gracious staff at Books N Things will handle advanced ticket sales.

Advertising for individual shows will be announced when ticket sales begin for each show. For more information regarding OHMPAA, the 2013 season or auditions, go to www.OHMPAA.com or www.facebook/OHMPAA.
