Schoolhouse Arts offers Spring classes

STANDISH — In recognition of its 25th year of service to Lakes Region communities, the Schoolhouse Arts Center is offering some wonderful new classes for kids and adults of all ages beginning on March 18.

Guys and Dolls Junior Musical Theater Workshop (ages eight to 14) will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Kids will learn acting skills, improvisation, dance, and voice as they rehearse and perform this entertaining junior musical.

Being a Teenage Actor and Writer of Film and Stage (ages 14 to 20) will meet on Mondays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. This is a new workshop in acting like a teenager, running the camera, editing, running sound equipment, being part of a film crew, writing scenes and shooting a film. It will climax when students shoot a film and produce their own play.

The Schoolhouse will also offer classes in Guitar 1 for Beginners (ages seven and up), Guitar 2 for Beginners (ages seven and up), Creative Movement Dance (ages three to five), Beginner Combo Dance (ages three to five), Junior Hip Hop (ages eight to 12), Teen Hip Hop (ages 13 to 18), Junior Lyrical Jazz (ages eight to 12), Teen Lyrical Jazz (ages 13 to 18), Tap and Ballet (ages five to seven), Beginner Tap (ages eight to 12), Beginner Zumba (all ages), and Dance for the Actor (all ages) teaching the basic dance steps that all actors should know to feel confident enough to pass the audition and get the part.

A Spring Student Showcase will climax the lineup of Spring classes on Thursday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m. This event will give kids and adults alike a chance to demonstrate the valuable new skills that they have learned at the Schoolhouse.
