Chili Challenge thanks participants

To the Editor:

The Center Lovell Fire House was a popular place to be on Sunday, November 14 as more than 80 people cast a ballot for their favorite chili recipe. Fifteen amateur chefs participated in this year’s Battle of the Bowls and the variety of chilis was impressive. Some were smoking hot, some were mild, some had venison or bison, but all were delicious.

The Chili Challenge is held each year to raise funds for the Lovell Friends Helping Friends Emergency Fuel Assistance Program. Over $1,000 was raised at the event which will go a long way in assisting local residents in need.

There are two judging categories, The People’s Choice and the Judges’ Choice. The People chose the Father/Daughter team of Al and Rondi Stearns for their entry while Tom Rose was the top choice of the Judges.

The Committee would like to thank all of the cooks for their enthusiastic participation, Mark Moulton and the Lovell Fire Department for the use of their facility, to Emily Grzyb and Emily Carty for the design of the top apron awards and Stefi Reed Hastings for her raffle donation and to all of the eager people who attended.

If you would like to make a contribution to the fund, you may do so by sending your donation to: Lovell Friends Helping Friends, Town of Lovell, PO Box 236, Center Lovell, ME 04016.

And remember, it is never too early to start testing your recipe for the fourth annual Battle of the Bowls next November.
