Disappointed with decision

To the Editor:

I'm extremely disappointed with the Oxford Hills Casino No group's decision to ask for a recount of the recent referendum. While the statewide vote was close, the Oxford Hills and Oxford County citizens passed it by a very large margin. Members of the No group are very respected members of the community and some are small business owners who depend on the local folks for support. One would think they would respect the will of the people in their own communities. Instead of continuing the battle, why not work with Black Bear Entertainment to ensure the best possible business plan for the good of the people and the local economy? One concern has been that people won't leave the casino to shop or eat in the local towns. Couldn't some business group see about providing transportation from the casino into the towns? The local people have spoken, so let's all work together for the good of the communities.

There have been many claims made both for and against the casino. The fact of the matter is, no one knows for sure what all the positives or the negatives of a casino in Oxford Hills will be. I do know that we are blessed with some very intelligent, thoughtful and hardworking people throughout Oxford Hills and together they can make this work.
