Spay or neuter your cats

To the Editor:

You should get your cats neutered and spayed! Doing this will help control the cat population. You ask what neutering is, it's a surgical procedure where the testicles are removed from a male cat while under anesthesia. Spaying is a surgical procedure in which the ovaries and uterus are removed in a female cat which will prevent pregnancy and a cat going into heat.

Getting your cat fixed is a good idea because it can help having a longer cat life, and control diseases such as certain cancers and uterine infections. Getting a male cat fixed will most likely make him not mark his territory through spraying or scratching.
