Alcohol, cell phone result in teen crash ... Four charged with furnishing
DISTRACTED DRIVER — A silver 2005 Toyota sedan, operated by Eve Rottersman, 18, Bridgton, drifted off of Sodom Road in Norway and into some trees Saturday. A call was made to Norway Police Officer Steve Cronce around 2:30 a.m., after a friend, who was on the phone with Rottersman at the time, heard the crash. According to the police report, Rottersman was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital but was released with no injuries. The report also states that Rottersman was on her way home from an underage drinking party in Waterford when the crash occurred. Blood has been drawn from the driver for a blood-alcohol test, but the results are unknown at this time.
AREA — Three people were charged in one incident and one in another, over the weekend, with furnishing alcohol to minors, which sent one minor to the hospital after she crashed her vehicle while on her way home from an underage drinking party.
In Waterford Saturday, Oxford County deputies charged Adam Curtis, 23, of Poland, Tyler Curtis, 21, of Oxford and Jared Simpson, 20, of Waterford with furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol.
All three were released on $500 unsecured bond.
According to Oxford County Chief Deputy Dane Tripp, on Saturday around 2 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received a call from Norway Police Officer Steve Cronce that 18-year-old Eve Rottersman from Bridgton had crashed her 2005 Toyota Sedan into some trees on the Sodom Road in Norway, while she was on her way home from an underage drinking party.
Tripp said that the party took place at 32 Deer Hill Road in Waterford where Jared Simpson is currently living.
According to an affidavit by Oxford County Deputy Josh Wyman, Simpson's parents live in an upstairs apartment from their son, and said that they knew there was a party downstairs but they were unaware of any underage drinking.
Deputy Wyman met with Simpson at his apartment Saturday evening and Simpson said that he and a few friends were just "having a good time." Wyman advised Simpson that there had been a serious accident and that he was there to conduct a follow-up to the accident, after Rottersman had confessed to drinking at the party.
Tripp said that Rottersman was also on her cell phone with a friend when the crash occurred. She was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released.
In another incident, Jody L. Hall, 47, of Whittemore Road in Oxford was charged on Sunday morning with furnishing liquor to minors, furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol and violation of bail condition.
According to Oxford County Jail officials, Hall was released Monday on a supervised bail contract.
"She is not to use or possess alcohol," said Oxford Police Chief Jon Tibbetts.
Alan Coffin of the Oxford Police Department responded to a call about a domestic dispute at Hall's home when he found four juveniles, three 17-year-olds and one 18-year-old, drinking alcohol with Hall, said Tibbetts.
According to Officer Coffin's affidavit, one of the minors had driven Hall to a store where she bought a bottle of Fireball Whisky. She then went home and shared it with the teens. While on the way to the jail, Hall was uncooperative with Coffin and refused to sign her summons.
The juveniles received summonses for possession of alcohol by consumption, he said.
