Local man charged with Christmas Day robbery

MECHANIC FALLS — A Mechanic Falls man was arrested on Sunday, after stealing drugs from the Rite-Aid Pharmacy on Minot Avenue in Auburn.

According to police reports, the robbery happened around 3:45 p.m. on Christmas, shortly after John Letourneau, 47, of Mechanic Falls, handed pharmacy staff a note demanding drugs.

Police said that once Letourneau got ahold of some painkillers, he fled the store.

Auburn Officer Shawn Carll, assisted by the Mechanic Falls Police Department, arrested Letourneau after witnesses provided them with a good description of Letourneau and his vehicle.

According to Androscoggin County Jail officials, Letourneau was charged with robbery. He was released from the Androscoggin County Jail on $1,000 cash bail.
