Police say driver drugged

PARIS - Paris police made an unusual pair of arrests November 19 when they apprehended  a couple who, police say, were driving drugged.

According to Paris Police Lieutenant Mike Dailey, he and Officer Tim Gamache were told that a couple had left the courthouse parking area, driving erratically. The female member of the duo had seemed unsteady on her feet while conducting business in the courthouse complex before driving off, the complainant said.

The Paris officers caught up with the duo on Western Avenue and found Meghan Bowie, 25, of Norway, in the driver's seat and David Neal Jr., riding as her passenger. Both seemed to the officers to be under the influence of some substance. A search of the vehicle disclosed Adderall and Clonazepam, for which neither Bowie not Neal had a prescription.

Bowie was charged with possession of scheduled drugs and violating terms of release. Neal was charged with violating terms of his probation.

Bowie, who has a history of carrying a concealed weapon, theft, drug use and failure to appear in court, was able to make bail with the help of Maine Pretrial services. Neal is eligible for bail in that manner as well, but must be released directly to a drug rehabilitation program.
