Robbery suspects armed, dangerous
OXFORD — Two suspects in an Oxford Robbery Tuesday, May 3 are being considered armed and dangerous by Oxford police.
Oxford Police Chief Jonathan Tibbetts said that they were contacted by a witness to a robbery on Tuesday afternoon, who reported two suspects fleeing the scene in a van.
Chief Verrier of the Paris Police department reported that the vehicle was spotted entering Paris by Maine Game Wardens, who happened to be in the area, and the information was relayed through Oxford County dispatch to Paris Police.
Paris officers chased the van until it crashed into a tree at the corner of Paris Hill and Hooper Ledge Roads. The two suspects fled the scene on foot, leaving many of the stolen items but taking with them a 9 mm handgun and ammunition reported stolen by the victim of the burglary.
Tibbetts reported that local law enforcement officers from Norway, Paris, and Oxford were on scene at the location of the crash on Tuesday. State Game Wardens, State Police, members of the Oxford County Sheriff's Office, and a canine unit from Androscoggin County all participated in the early stages of the investigation Tuesday afternoon, but they were not able to track down the suspects.
One of the men, Scott Bowie, has a long criminal history that includes convictions for assault, burglary, and furnishing or trafficking drugs, as well as pending charges for robbery, burglary and domestic assault. The other suspect has not yet been identified.
Oxford Police are currently handling the investigation, but said that an official search had yet to get underway because officials did not yet know where to start.
Tibbetts described Bowie as "well-known" to local law enforcement, and said that the the Oxford PD has dealt with him on multiple occasions. He confirmed that Bowie and the other suspect were being considered armed and dangerous.
