Autopsy concluded in shooting death

BUCKFIELD — The state medical examiner's office has concluded the autopsy of a 51-year old Buckfield resident who died of a gunshot wound on April 20.

Steve McCausland, a spokesman from the state police, said that they were not releasing the results of the autopsy yet, and that the shooting death is still under investigation by the state police.

Gregg Belanger's ex-wife, Denise Belanger, called police to Belanger's house at 8:30 on the night of Wednesday, April 20 after discovering the body.

McCausland said that investigators had made no determinations as to whether the crime was being treated as a suicide, homicide, or accident, and were not releasing any details.

The spokesman said investigators are conducting interviews and collecting forensic evidence from the scene. Conclusions from the autopsy will be released when the investigation is completed.

Belanger was a welder at Bath Iron Works.

The death is being classified as "suspicious" until the investigation is completed.
