Police track down stolen snowmobile

NORWAY — Norway police were able to recover a stolen snowmobile after a two-day investigation.

Eric Heino was arrested on February 11 and charged with a Class C felony after a tip from an anonymous informant led law enforcement officials to him.

Marc Todd, of Norway, reported his snowmobile stolen on Wednesday, February 9.  According to Detective Gary Hill, he had left it by a trail near Sodom Road on Monday after experiencing mechanical problems, only to find it missing when he returned.

Shortly after the report, Norway Officer Holli Pullen received a tip that Heino was selling a snowmobile that matched the description of Todd's. Posing as a potential buyer, she set up a meeting with Heino on the night of the 11th.  Assisted by Norway Officer Jeffrey Campbell, she arrived at the pre-arranged location, identified the sled, and made the arrest.

Heino is being charged with a Class C Theft by Unauthorized Taking or Transfer, along with Violation of Probation.  Theft was elevated from a Class E misdemeanor to a Class C felony because the value of the snowmobile exceeded $1,000.
