Progress Center honors past members, welcomes new

OXFORD HILLS - At the recent Annual Board of Directors Meeting of The Progress Center, Board President Ron Raymond presented past members Donita St. John, Jean Record, Jim St. John and Tom Gorrill with plaques expressing appreciation for their leadership, dedication and many years of service as active members of The Board of Directors. During their tenure on the board they were part of the team that helped propel The Progress Center forward while remaining committed to the needs of the individuals supported and their families, as well as to staff and management.
The Board also welcomed two new members of the Board of Directors, Melissa Burgess and Richard Clough. Melissa lives in Monmouth and works in the Special Education Department at the Monmouth Elementary School. Richard resides in Norway and is a Financial Advisor at Merrill Lynch in Portland.
The 2010 Employee of the Year award was presented to Becky Connell by Ron Raymond and Kathy Brown, Community Supports Manager. When presenting the award to Becky, Kathy spoke of Becky’s devotion and commitment to not only the individuals she supports but also to the mission of The Progress Center. Becky was voted by her peers to receive this award.
Others addressing those assembled included TPC Executive Director, Kristin Benedix who gave a brief update before introducing other members of management. Members of the management team gave brief updates of each department within the organization.
The Board of Directors of The Progress Center meets monthly with their November meeting being the annual dinner meeting. Officers of the board include Ron Raymond, Chairman; Kathy Perkins, Vice Chairman; Tom White, Secretary and Laurie Redfield, Treasurer.
The Progress Center was incorporated in 1980 and today serves over 100 children, families and adults with disabilities. TPC is funded through contracts with the State of Maine Department of Health and Human Services, annual fund raising events, grant writing, and the generosity of donors and supporters who help make it possible to continue to maintain high quality services for each person served.
