Waterford couple enter contest for $100,000 Real Maine Wedding
PLEASE VOTE – Chris Henderson and Amber Millett are hoping to exchange vows at the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport. They have entered a contest to win a $100,000 wedding and voting is going on right now.
WATERFORD – Amber Millett and Chris Henderson are hoping for a wedding like no other. And they have entered a contest to have just that!
The couple had been best of friends since high school and officially became a couple when Chris finally got the nerve to ask Amber out on a date.
“We met playing hockey together,” smiled Amber. “Chris was very shy and his grandfather kept telling him to ask me out. We were driving by Norway Lake in early spring 2003 and he had a beat up Ford Ranger and the radio didn’t work. Out of the blue he asked me if I would go to the prom with him. I was so surprised and excited I didn’t know what to say.”
“There was a long awkward pause before I had given him an answer,” she added. “I think I made him sweat a little; I finally said: 'Of Course!'”
Seven years later, the nervous Chris got on his knees to ask for Amber’s hand.
“It was on Christmas Eve,” explained Amber. “We went to L.L. Bean to purchase a few things last minute. It was one of the most romantic, winter scenes in Maine and their Christmas light display was absolutely gorgeous. I looking up at all the lights through the snow coming down, looked back down and there he was on one knee holding the white jewelry box with the ring his grandfather had helped him pick out. It couldn’t have been any better.”
A few days after the engagement there was an announcement about a $100,000 Real Maine Wedding in Freeport sponsored by the Maine Wedding Magazine.
“We thought our story would be perfect, we were high school sweethearts and we were engaged right next door at L.L. Bean,” said the bride to be.
“We are your traditional Maine couple. “We go fishing, hunting and enjoy the outdoors of our beautiful state.”
The couple also feels that Maine is the perfect place to raise a family and grow old together.
“Since the competition is called a Real Maine Wedding, we feel that we should be highly considered because we are a real Maine couple,” said Amber. “We were engaged in Freeport, so what better way to end the chapter of our single lives than to exchange our vows there as well.”
The winning couple will be announced at the Maine Wedding Association Bridal Expo on April 3 at the Harraseeket Inn. Once a winner is chosen, people will be able to vote on each portion of the wedding, including such things as the dress, entertainment, flowers, rings, and honeymoon.
“We would accept whatever the voters have in mind!” she laughed. “I would carry a cactus down the aisle if they wanted! A 100,000 wedding would be a dream-come-true, and we would be so appreciative.”
The wedding itself will be held in October.
“Fall is absolutely gorgeous in Maine,” sighed the bride to be. “The foliage, the comfortable temperatures, as well as the crisp fall air; it’s a perfect time for a Maine wedding.”

“Our love sprouted from a friendship that I’ve always known was special; we both knew we belonged together for the rest of our lives,” smiled Amber. “If we win, we will be honored to have been chosen. This is something that we can tell generations of family.”
“We just feel that our love is something very special and to seal the deal with a 100,000 dream wedding, that would just be amazing.”
