Safe Voices working to end violence
AUBURN — Safe Voices, formerly the Abused Women’s Advocacy Project (AWAP), is offering a sponsorship opportunity to raise awareness and provide funding to support its vital services in the community. The annual Walk to End Violence is a highly publicized event that continues to grow, raising $14,000 last year.
But first, why the name change? Safe Voices wants its name to reflect what it is today and its plans for the future. Its mission — to support and empower those affected by domestic violence and engage the community in creating social change in Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties — remains the same. Safe Voices serves all people who are experiencing domestic violence in any kind of relationship. In the last fiscal year it provided 13,793 hours of advocacy to victims of domestic violence, 4,895 shelter bed nights and educated 4,525 participants.
Partnering with Safe Voices for the annual Walk to End Violence will market your business while drawing awareness to the event. The walk will be held May 14, 2011, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Simard-Payne Memorial Park in Auburn. The goal is to collect sponsorships in order to build partnerships and offer publicity to businesses willing to take a stand against domestic violence.
