Christmas in Harrison book signing and folk art

HARRISON - A new addition to the Christmas festivities in Harrison this year will be book signing by Otisfield author and illustrator, Rochelle Draper and original art by local artist, Donna Lacey Derstine.

Draper’s book, "The Stonewall Dragon," published by Down East Books, is the beautifully illustrated story of a boy who takes a fall on a stone wall while exploring his family farm in Maine. When he awakens, the wall has turned into a dragon that invites him to climb aboard for a magical ride to the sea, through blueberry barrens, sheep pastures, beaver ponds and small villages.

The Stonewall Dragon is such an elegant representation of the Maine landscape that it inspired a permanent children’s sculpture at the prestigious Boothbay Botanical Gardens.

In addition to Draper’s book and artwork, look for the original pastel and folk art of Donna Lacey Derstine, whose work has been featured in Yankee Magazine, Country Living, Early American Life and numerous publications. Donna, who lives in Harrison, is also inspired by the simple themes that surround her Maine home.

Rochelle and Donna will be at 41 Main Street, Harrison, next door to the Grange Hall and Horse Drawn Rides, on Saturday, December 4. This will be a wonderful opportunity to purchase unique and local gifts for the holiday season. Books and art are limited, so come early.
