Upcoming classes announced at SeniorsPlus

LEWISTON - SeniorsPlus is offering the following courses in December.

Gentle Basic Yoga - Fridays, December 3, 10 and 17, 3–4 p.m. Cost is $10 per class. Instructor is Paul Jones, Certified Yoga Instructor. This is a gentle and basic yoga class for people who have the mobility to get up and down from the floor with reasonable ease. The purpose of this type of yoga is to enhance breathing, balance, flexibility and stamina as well as freedom of movement.

Hearing Loss and Aging – Causes and Possible Solutions - Monday, December 6, 1-2 p.m. No cost. Instructor is Dr. Bryce Cropper, Au.D., Audiologist. Dr. Cropper will talk about how to know if you have a hearing loss, the mechanics of the ear, some solutions to hearing and communication problems, and what to expect from a hearing care provider. Bring your questions. Following the class, there will be a free hearing screening.

Meditation and Breathing Skills for Seniors: Learn How to Make Your Holidays and Life More Relaxed - Tuesday, December 7, 2-3-p.m. No cost. Instructor is Marcy Covey, Wellness Practitioner. Taking care of yourself is sometimes a forgotten priority. Learn how meditation and deep breathing can ease pain and stress, and help to create a sense of calm.

Holiday Card Making - Wednesday, December 8, 10 a.m.-12 noon. Cost is $5 for supplies. Instructor is Tammy Cook, experienced card maker. Come have fun with Tammy, and make yourself beautiful holiday cards to keep or send.

AARP Safe Driving - Thursday, December 9, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Cost is $14, payable to AARP; $12 for AARP members. Instructor is Tom Harvey. This program helps drivers adjust to age-related changes. Drivers 55 and older who complete this class are eligible for discounts on their auto insurance premiums for three years.

Living with Grief through the Holidays - Wednesday, December 15, 1:30-3 p.m. No cost. Instructor is Jim Douglas, Bereavement Services Supervisor, Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice. Grief is a challenging, complicated emotion, especially during the holidays. You will learn ways to live with grief, cope with expectations, and learn to identify traditions that promote healing.

Beaded Jewelry - Would you like to make a piece of professionally-designed jewelry? For yourself or as a gift? This month: earrings and bracelet - Friday, December 17, 12:30-2:30 p.m. Cost is $10 for supplies. Instructor is Sandi Godin, owner, Beadaful Creations. Learn how to bead a beautiful set of earrings and bracelet with an experienced designer. If you would like to make clip earrings, please let them know when you register so Sandi will have the supplies for you. Participants will have fun and leave with their own creation.

What’s Happening to My Body As It Ages? - There is no class this month. January’s class will be What’s Happening to My Bones and Joints as I Age?

Advance registration is required for all workshops. To register, call 795-4010 or 1-800-427-1241. The SeniorsPlus Education Center is located at 8 Falcon Road, Lewiston. The site is fully handicap accessible. Hard-of-hearing assistive equipment is available. These services are free (except as noted) and open to anyone.
