Norway library has free ebooks available
NORWAY - Norway Memorial Library is pleased to announce that eBooks are now available for download by their cardholders thorough Maine InfoNet Download Library which is available on-line at http://download.maineinfonet.org or by a link from Norway Library's website at www.norway.lib.me.us.
More than 1,400 books spanning best-selling Fiction, Nonfiction, Young Adult and Children's content are now available through Maine InfoNet as downloadable eBooks. This is in addition to the ever-growing collection of downloadable audiobooks also available at the site, currently totaling over 1800 books.
The eBook collection is made possible through a grant from the Davis Family Foundation and through contributions from participating libraries from across the state. By working together, libraries have been able to collaborate to offer a cutting-edge service that would not have been economically feasible otherwise.
Also known as "digital books," eBooks are books that can be read on a computer screen or with portable e-reader devices, such as the Sony Reader, the Kobo and the Nook. The eBooks available from Maine InfoNet are also compatible with most computers, laptops and netbooks, and should soon work with the popular Apple iPad as well as Droid-based smartphones. The eBooks available through this system are unfortunately not supported by the Amazon Kindle. Detailed information on which devices work with eBooks in this collection is posted on the Download Library website.
To access eBooks or audiobooks, patrons may log in by selecting the name of a participating library and entering his or her library card number from that library. There is a "Quick Start Guide" that explains how to get started downloading, and library staff are also happy to help. For more information, please contact Norway Memorial Library at 743-5309.
Maine InfoNet is a collaborative of academic, public, school, and special libraries that provides leadership in resource sharing, promotes cost effective solutions for quality library information services, and supports the cultural, educational, and economic development of Maine.
The eBook and audiobook collections are located at the Maine InfoNet Download Library website at http://download.maineinfonet.org.
