Historical tour planned

BRIDGTON - Celebrate Veteran’s Day by joining Loon Echo Land Trust’s Stewardship Coordinator, Jon Evans, on Thursday, November 11, for a historical tour through Pondicherry Park. You’ll pass tall pines, wetlands, the mill sites of Willett and Stevens Brook, and stop at the Bob Dunning Memorial Bridge as you travel through this unique park in the center of Bridgton. You’ll learn about the park’s early settlers and why many Revolutionary War veterans called Bridgton home.

If you yet haven’t visited the 66-acre park, this two-hour history tour is a great opportunity to see its progress. The Bob Dunning Memorial Bridge is nearing completion with a dedication ceremony being planned at the end of November.

“Bridgton has such a rich history that we should celebrate and preserve,” said Evans. “And this beautiful bridge will be a part of that history some day.”

Loon Echo Land Trust protects land in the northern Sebago Lake region of Maine to conserve its natural resources and character for future generations. Pondicherry Park is a partnership between Loon Echo Land Trust and Lakes Environmental Association.

Hikers should dress warmly and meet at the Greater Bridgton Chamber of Commerce office on Route 302 at 8:30 am. For more information about the hike, contact Jon Evans at 632-8510. Visit the Pondicherry Park website at www.pondicherrypark.org.
