Whitman Memorial Library

BRYANT POND — The Whitman Memorial Library had two guest speakers recently, Mike Daniels from the Bethel Citizen and Game Warden Norman E. Lewis. Both spoke about their professions and then answered a variety of questions from the audience.

Library programs have stopped for the summer, but are planned to resume in September, so watch for news.

It is hoped to have a couple of summer programs for children. One date has been set. On Saturday, August 11, there will be a scavenger hunt combined with a book sale. There should be something for everyone. Watch for more details about this event.

In addition to books purchased, the library also has a donation from TD Bank, "Full 60 to History: The Inside Story of the 2011 Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins." They also have two copies of "From Start to Finish," by local sculptor, Gil Whitman.

Patrons are encouraged to suggest books that they would like to see in the library. Just talk to the librarian, Althea Hathaway.

People can now access their genealogy on the library's computers, as they now have the program Marvel Genealogy.

New books at the library include "The Drop," Michael Connelly; "What Alice Forgot," Liane Moriary; "It's All About Him," Denise Jackson; "Perfect Match," Jodi Picoult; "City of Tranquil Light," Bo Caldwell; "Gabby," Gabrielle Gifford and Mark Kelly; "Broken Laces," Rodney Walther; "An Amish Family Reunion," Mary Ellis; "Home Front," Kristin Hannah; "The Rope," Nevada Barr; "Private Games," James Patterson; "The Hunger Games," "Catching Fire" and "Mockingjay," Suzanne Collins; "When I Found You" and "Second Hand Heart," Catherine Hyde; "The Lost Years," Mary Higgins Clark; "Heaven is Here," Stephanie Clark; "The Lucky One," Nicholas Sparks; "The Witness," Nora Roberts; "The Innocent," David Baldacci; "The Life Boat," Charlotte Rogan and "The Good Father," Diane Chamberlain.

You don't have to be a Bryant Pond resident to use the library.
