Composting workshop set at Alan Day
The Alan Day Community Garden will be hosting a composting workshop on Sunday, May 20th from 3-5 p.m.
Composting kitchen scraps and yard clippings is not only a great way to reduce household waste, but it can also create rich soil amendments for your garden and decrease use of expensive chemical fertilizers.
Composting is a fascinating process by which nature recycles materials and makes nutrients avaliable to begin new life.
Producing compost is fun and easy, but there are a few tricks to help the process go smoothly, and to avoid putting weed seeds or other unwanted items back into your garden.
Learning how to create the best ratio of various materials, when to add more, and when to turn the pile, will ensure a vigorous and healthy compost. When done right, compost rarely smells foul and is a rewarding process.
It takes very little investment and yields a great asset and savings, while also reducing the amount of household waste that goes to the "dump".
The workshop will be hosted by Brian Lenburg and is free and open to everyone. The Alan Day Community Garden is located at 26 Whitman Street in Norway.
