Secret Gardens of Portland tour

PORTLAND — On Saturday, June 16, from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., The Opportunity Alliance will host the Secret Gardens of Portland, a tour of the best private gardens in Portland.

A fundraiser for the Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion programs, tickets to tour the gardens are $17.50 in advance, $20 the day of the event. Tickets will be available at Skillins in Falmouth and Cumberland, Big Sky Bread Company at 536 Deering Avenue and Monument Square in Portland, O’Donal’s Nursery in Gorham and on-line at www.opportunityalliance.org.

Foster Grandparents volunteer in classrooms under the guidance of teachers in schools and child development centers. Senior Companions volunteer to help their neighbors remain living independently. Income-eligible volunteers receive a tax-free stipend, mileage reimbursement and other benefits that do not affect Social Security, food stamps, LIHEAP, or subsidized housing eligibility.
