Crafters sought for apple festival

ALFRED — The Shaker Hill Apple Festival will be taking place on the beautiful grounds of an old Shaker village on Shaker Hill Road in Alfred on Saturday and Sunday, September 24 and 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The York County Shelter Program is sponsoring the Second Annual Juried Shaker Hill Arts and Crafts Fair at the Apple Festival. The jurying committee of this arts and crafts fair is particularly interested in applicants who work in quality nature-related crafts. Basketmakers, potters, fiber artists, painters, spinners, weavers, blacksmiths, woodworkers, woodcarvers, stone artists, quilters, and glass artisans are strongly encouraged to apply.

Advertising for the fair is extensive and attendance at last year's Shaker Hill Apple Festival was very high as apple picking takes place at Giles Orchards and many events are scheduled at the Alfred Shaker Museum.

The Shaker Hill Apple Festival Arts and Crafts Fair takes place rain or shine and parking and admission to the fair are free. A 10'x10' outside booth is available to artisans for a $50 fee for both days. A sample of the work and the contact information of the various artists are posted throughout the year on the Shelter's website, www.yorkcountyshelterprograms.org, and also on the Shaker Hill Apple Festival website.

To obtain information about the craft fair and to access an application, go to www.shakerhillapplefestival.org or contact Mary Doyle at 793-2759 or e-mail mqdoyle@gmail.com. All proceeds from the Shaker Hill Apple Festival benefit the homeless children of the York County Shelter Programs.
