Harrison winter fest

HARRISON — The Town of Harrison will hold its Winter Fest from Friday, February 25, to Sunday, February 27. This event is being sponsored by Harrison Recreation, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, local fish and game clubs and registered Maine guides, Sportsmen Show at the Harrison Town Office, High View Farm, Northern Heights Farm, Harrison Friendly Riders Snowmobile Club, United Parish Congregational Church of Harrison/Bridgton and the Waterford World’s Fair Association.

Schedule of Events:

Friday, February 25

Children’s Handicap Derby — 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the head of Long Lake. All entries receive a welcome pack. There will be first, second and third prizes for eight species of fish.

Saturday, February 26

Ice Fishing Derby — 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Crystal Lake. All junior entries receive a welcome pack. There will be first, second and third place prizes for ages 0 to 15 for eight species of fish and for ages 16+, salmon, brown trout and cusk. There will also be hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill plus coffee and hot cocoa for a donation. Sportsmen Show will be held at the Town Office.

Ice harvesting — 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Crystal Lake

Horse drawn wagon rides — 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Crystal Lake Park

Food booth — Open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with soup, chili, hot dogs and drinks at Crystal Lake Park

Snowshoeing and cross country skiing — 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Equipment available or bring your own

Snowmobile rides — 1 to 3 p.m. at Crystal Lake Park

Snowman building — 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Crystal Lake Park

Buffet breakfast — 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Congregational Church. Donations will be accepted for scrambled eggs, homemade pancakes, home fries, sausage, orange juice, coffee and tea

Roast pork supper — 5 p.m. at the Congregational Church. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Supper will feature pork, potato, veggies and pies.

Sunday, February 27

Family Ice Fishing Derby — 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the head of Long Lake. All junior entries from 0-15 years old will receive a welcome pack. First, second and third place prizes awarded for eight species. Ages 16+ will be awarded prizes for salmon, brown trout and cusk. There will be hot cocoa and snacks available. Sportsmen Show will be held at the town office.

Radar Run — Registration is from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Crystal Lake. Racing is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $20 for three runs or $10 a run. Kids under 18 may run with parental permission (parents must sign a waiver). Racing is by class and top speed of the day. A new antique snowmobile class will be added. The food booth will have burgers, hot dogs, chili and drinks.

Sledding and sleigh rides at High View Farm — Sledding from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bring your own sled and enjoy sledding down the big hill. Sled at your own risk. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Sleigh rides from 12 to 2 p.m. This is free. Enjoy winter’s beauty from a horse drawn sleigh ride. The farm is located at 48 Leander Harmon Road, off of the Edes Falls Road. Leaving the center of town, headed toward Crystal Lake Park, take a right on High Street after the Congregational Church. High View Farm is two miles up on the left. Watch for signs.
