Tax return help for Oxford Hills

OXFORD — Free tax return help for households with under $50,000 income is available in the Oxford Hills starting Saturday, February 12 through the end of March. This program is made possible by the new Oxford County Cash Coalition, comprised of organizations including the United Way of Oxford County, Community Concepts, Region 9 Adult Education, Healthy Oxford Hills, the IRS, University of Southern Maine, AARP, and is funded through small grants. The tax preparers are volunteers trained by the IRS.

Some may also be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit. The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a Federal tax benefit for people who work and make less than $48,362 per year. If eligible, filing a 2010 tax return could result in you receiving a tax credit ranging from $457 to $5,666.

Appointments are available for Saturday mornings and Monday evenings through the end of March. Call 364-2012 for appointments.This will take place at the Child Health Center, Rt. 26, Oxford (GPS 2 Madison Ave, Oxford, ME 04276; use Rt. 26 entrance). Electronic filing is available, so if you have income below $50,000, get fast and free tax help this year.

The AARP Tax program also provides free tax help at the Norway Library. Call 743-7459 for appointments.
