French Club plans fundraisers

OXFORD HILLS — Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School French classes are trying to raise $9,000 for a trip to Montreal, Canada in March. They are planning on 27 to 30 participating French class students.

The French Club is raising the funds to make the trip affordable for all students who want to go. Anyone wishing to donate can send a check or money order to Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, c/o French Club Montreal Trip, 256 Main Street, South Paris, ME 04281.

The French Club has two fundraisers coming right up. On Saturday, February 12, a De-Stress Fest is planned at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Norway from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event will include a Chartres Labyrinth (replica) Walk, stress management workshops and information. They are charging $10.

Take time for yourself to experience relief in an indoor labyrinth. The labyrinth will be a replica of the Chartres Labyrinth in France which is used for contemplation and walking meditation

Also scheduled at the De-Stress Fest are free Reiki sessions by Anne Smith, M.A., EMP, RM/T, CEC and Jeanie Stone RII, starting at 10 a.m.; a beautiful bird art activity with Sarah Shepley from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; free chair massage by Marilee Nurmi starting at 1 p.m. and guided imagery and yoga by Jill Gabrielson, M.D.

There will also be a raffle for a horsedrawn sleighride for five people. This is at MeadowCreek Farm in Sumner. The sleigh is pulled by a team of Belgian horses. For more information contact Anne at 743-8914, voice mail 6606.

A Franco-American Dinner is scheduled on February 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Culinary Arts classroom at the high school. The cost is $5.

The meal will feature Franco-American/French-Canadian Creton (spicy pork spread), Tourtières - meat pies, chicken pies, salmon pies and vegetarian pies, fresh green salads with Vinaigrette, old-fashioned coconut patties, butter tarts, pudding au chomeur (poor man's pudding) - an upside-down cake with caramel base and more.
