Winter Wonderland at Harvest Hill
MECHANIC FALLS — Harvest Hill Farms opened for its first “Weekend Winter Wonderland” over the weekend of January 29-30 at its Rt. 26 location in Mechanic Falls. As with their successful Fall Pumpkin Land venue, the “Weekend Winter Wonderland" is designed for family fun. The great part about the winter venue is that it’s mostly free. The giant “Frankenslide” has been a big hit with the kids, especially when it is covered with fresh snow. Plastic sleds and snow tubes are the “preferred mode of travel.” Slippery bottom snowsuits are another popular sliding option, but they don’t go as far or as fast. The farm pond next to the Petting Barn (which is also open and is a big hit with the kids) has been cleared of snow for those family members who enjoy ice-skating. The fields and selected woods trails are open for those who wish to do some snowshoeing.
There will be horse-drawn sleigh rides each weekend for a small fee. The sleigh ride starts next to the Petting Barn and then follows a scenic route through the fields and returns back to the Petting Barn.
The Harvest Hill Farms “Weekend Winter Wonderland” will be open weekends this winter season on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. until dark, weather permitting. There is no admission price except for those wishing to take the horse drawn sleigh rides. Off-street parking is available behind Farm House Pizza. For more information visit their website at www.harvesthillfarms.com or call 998-5485.
