RPCneeds help winning

NORWAY — Can you imagine what a small animal shelter like RPC could do with $5,000? You can help Responsible Pet Care win some much-needed prize money in two on-line contests. Here's how.

The first contest is the Animal Rescue Site's Favorite Animal Shelter contest which is currently running and ends on March 20. You can vote once a day. As of today RPC is #4 in the state and #396 overall. They have been slowly rising in their position. The prize money is either $1,000 or $5,000. Either amount would help tremendously. They need to get as many people as possible to vote daily; go to www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/shelterchallenge.faces?siteId=3.

The second contest is the Bangor Savings Bank's Community Matters. This is also a voting contest, however you only have to vote one time. Voting is only open to Maine residents. This contest ends on March 11. Responsible Pet Care is a write-in vote under Western; go to www.bangor.com/Why-Bangor-Savings/Supporting-Our-Communities/Community-Matters-More.aspx.

February 12, Texas Hold 'em Tournament - This is a monthly event that is held at the Norway Municipal Complex on Danforth Street. The entrance fee is $55 and prize money is paid to the top 10 percent in attendance. The doors open at 11:30 a.m. The games begin at 1 p.m. Plan on arriving early and having lunch there. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Responsible Pet Care. Checks will be accepted up to a week before the event. Tickets purchased at the door will be cash only. Open to 48 players.

Valentine Basket giveaway, now until February 11 - Every time you shop at the thrift store, Pawsibilities, you will be entered in a free giveaway for a basket packed full of nice gifts. Not too many nice things are free so don't miss this one.

March 27, Longaberger Basket Bingo - Have some fun playing bingo to help the cats. Held at the Norway Legion Hall on Main Street. Mark your calendar now and more info will be available next month.

April 23, Ticket Auction - These auctions have a great reputation for having many very desirable gifts to take chances on. This is held at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Mark your calendar for this one, too and more information will come later.
