Snowfall in time for Bethel WinterFest
BETHEL — More than a foot of powdery snow fell on the Bethel area this week, helping to set the stage for a multitude of terrific events planned from Saturday, January 22 through Sunday, January 30. A complete listing of events can be found at www.bethelwinterfest.com.
Bethel is known for its imaginative winter festival undertakings and this year is no different. The “centerpiece” of the festival is a growing 120 foot ice tower – which, over the course of the winter months should grow in girth and height. Enveloped in white and red lights, the tower is a sight to behold and worth the trip to check out.
Ice skating, a Tubb’s snowshoe demonstration and scavenger hunt, snow groomer rides, alpine and Nordic events aplenty, a Maine Street Rail Jam, scenic helicopter rides – sponsored by Allen’s Coffee Brandy - and much more is in store for the nine day fest. Inside events include performances, exhibits at the Bethel Historical Society, music, food, and special lodging deals.
One of the event sponsors, Owens Corning, will be present for the duration of the festival, showcasing their replacement windows and insulated panel systems – all in a self contained trailer located on Festival Plaza. All are encouraged to come and sign up to win one of two grand prizes: a house full of replacement windows and a finished basement or garage system installed and fully furnished.
Winter fun for everyone, this is affordable family entertainment in beautiful western Maine. Bethel WinterFest 2011 is presented by the Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce with support from Norway Savings Bank.
