Join the Safe Sitter® class in February
NORWAY — Sign up for the upcoming February Safe Sitter® class offered by Stephens Memorial Hospital (SMH). The class runs on Tuesday, February 22 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Thursday, February 24 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Harper Conference Center at SMH. The Family Birthplace nurses Carol Welsh, RN and Sandra Smith-Jewell, RN will officiate the class.
The program is a medically accurate, hands-on instructional program designed for young adolescents that teaches boys and girls how to handle emergencies when caring for children.
Stephens Memorial Hospital has four Safe Sitter Certified instructors that offer classes during school vacations. Safe Sitters learn infant and child CPR, choking procedure, safety for the sitter, how to call for emergency help, babysitting business skills, basic child care skills, and how to entertain children and keep them safe. The classes are geared for 11 – 13 year olds.
The fee for the two-day class is $50. A scholarship in the amount of $15 is available upon request. For information and registration for your son, daughter or your babysitter, call 743-5933 x380. On-line registration may be done via the website at www.wmhcc.org. The classes are scheduled during school breaks and the summer. There are a few slots left in the February class and registration is open now for April 19 and 22.
