Room in your heart?

This handsome, young cat is Bruzer. He is a solid cat who looks like he could take on the world. But don't let the rough exterior fool you. Inside, he is a softy.

Bruzer loves to be around the action in the shelter at Responsible Pet Care. He will sit under the desk, on the sink, or on the utility cart and be happy watching the daily activity.

Bruzer is a couch potato. He is the perfect pet to have by your side while you are watching Sunday football. He may even want to share your popcorn.

Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills is a no-kill, non-profit shelter and adoption center for cats and kittens. The shelter is housed in a modest building located at 132 Waterford Road in Norway.

The shelter cares for between 80 to 100 cats and kittens on site and in foster homes. At least 50 cats are ready for adoption.

The fee to adopt a kitten up to one year old is $90. The fee to adopt an adult cat is $80. Before a cat leaves the shelter, it has been spayed or neutered, given rabies and distemper vaccinations, tested for feline AIDS and leukemia, and treated for parasites.

Prospective new-pet parents must complete an application form that includes two non-family references, permission from the landlord for renters, and information about their current pets. All pets currently residing in the home must be up-to-date on rabies and distemper vaccinations. This information will be verified with the adopter’s veterinarian.

Anyone who is interested in giving a cat a forever home can visit the shelter Tuesday through Sunday from noon until 4 p.m. Adoptable cats can also be viewed on the shelter’s website at www.rpc.petfinder.com.

Questions about adopting or fostering a cat or kitten can be answered by calling Responsible Pet Care after Noon at 743-8679.
